A furry, gentle giant named Mecca Junior found himself in quite a predicament when he ended up wandering the streets of New York City all alone.
This adorable 135-pound pup had his dad, Mecca, worried sick and searching high and low for his beloved fur baby.
For two long weeks, Mecca Junior roamed the bustling streets of the Bronx, probably dreaming of snuggles and treats from his favorite human.
Meanwhile, his devoted owner, Mecca, was tirelessly posting flyers and scouring every nook and cranny of the city in hopes of finding his four-legged best friend.
A Twist of Fate
Just when things seemed hopeless, fate decided to lend a helping paw. The sweet, oversized pup was found by kind souls who brought him to the Manhattan Animal Care Center (ACC).
The shelter staff quickly fell in love with the gentle giant’s endearing personality, not realizing he already had a loving home.
Seeing how adorable and cuddly this big boy was, the ACC team couldn’t resist sharing a video of him on their TikTok account. They gave him the name Jose, unaware that his real moniker was Mecca Junior.
“At 135 pounds, he was an adorable, gentle giant that was too endearing to not share,” the ACC staff said in their TikTok post.
A Dad’s Desperate Search
While Mecca Junior was safe at the shelter, his dad Mecca was still frantically searching for him.
The distraught owner feared the worst – that his precious pup might have been stolen. But little did he know, a stroke of luck was just around the corner.
As Mecca scrolled through his phone one day, desperately hoping for any sign of his furry friend, something magical happened.

Mecca’s heart must have skipped a beat when he saw his beloved pup’s face on the screen.
Without wasting a second, he reached out to the shelter, revealing that the gentle giant they called Jose was actually his Mecca Junior.
The Happiest of Reunions
The very next morning, Mecca raced to the shelter, his heart pounding with excitement.
As soon as he walked in, something extraordinary happened. The once-reserved pup transformed before everyone’s eyes.
“As soon as Jose saw him, he shed his gentle, aloof demeanor, revealing his true wiggly and goofy self. He showered his dad with non-stop hugs,” the ACC staff recounted with joy.
Gone was the calm and collected giant – in his place was a bouncing ball of fur, circling around with the biggest doggy smile you’ve ever seen.
Mecca Junior couldn’t contain his excitement, showering his dad with endless kisses and tail wags.
Home Sweet Home
While the shelter usually follows a strict process for reuniting lost pets with their owners, in this case, the proof was in the pudding – or rather, in the pup’s ecstatic reaction.
There was no doubt that Mecca and Mecca Junior belonged together.
After a few celebratory photos and some quick paperwork, the dynamic duo headed out into the beautiful sunny day, ready to make up for lost time.

A Lesson Learned
While this story had a happy ending, it could have been much easier if Mecca Junior had been microchipped.
